Apparently we need to pick up the conversation started in the 'Introduce Yourself' thread.

First of all, how can anyone not love Troy Palamalu? Crazy haired man applying bone crushing hits all over the field. Yes, of course Bob Sanders totally rocks too. I can't wait until he comes back. The Colts are not the Colts without him.

I am more of a football fan in general than I am completely fanatic over one team; although I was fanatical over the Favre Packers. This will be my first year not making the pilgrimage to Lambeau in 4 years:(

And don't even get me started on the Cardinals. They should be awesome! The Chargers and the Cards...a match up of great talent that can't seem to put it together on the field for more than one game at a time. Glad Boldin is back though. I'd be surprised if he didn't have a crushing headache for many years to come.

I've been a fan of the Favre Packers too; to be honest, in the later years, he never lived up to what I expected him to be (guess that's just too high of expectations).

CARDS (yes they should be a great team) AND THE CHARGERS - WHAT!!! I'm not sure I want to talk about that one - bad call IMO (or I didn't see the right films); he stepped out.

Palamalu is a great player - I think he won it for them a couple years back.

I'd have to say I'm a football fan too - I've typically always rooted for the underdog regardless of who it was - it's a great and exciting sport.

The Steelers... took the Colts out and then won the super bowl that year. I am more of a player because of fantasy football. Do you play?

I believe they call this being a "fair weather fan". You're either a Cheesehead or you're not.

No Favre Jets?

This is where I get my sports news http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081030/?sub_id=B1WfP355eF33D&folio=CGI this is their picks for the super bowl. Unfortunately, the Colts weren't one of them but your Steelers are! Ah, how nice would it be if Payton would stop working on his acting skills and start working on his passing skills!

If college football is your thing one of the writers competes with his grandmother in picking who will win each week. Last time I checked she was in the lead!

Glad to see I got such an active football discussion started ! :-) My husband will be proud. :-)

I am a fair weather Colts fan. They are the 'home' team -- and I am going to the Colts/Pats game on Sunday; however, it was Troy's sheer tackling ability that drew me to pick him as my favorite. He was where the ball was. There was a passion I saw in his game -- that I really wish other players would show.

My husband grew up in Johnstown, PA so our house is Steeler, Penguin, and Pirates....

The one thing I have never understood about football is how the high school and college games are such high scoring games, and suddenly in the pros -- the entire feeling of the game changes. I have to agree with Paul "Ah, how nice would it be if Payton would stop working on his acting skills and start working on his passing skills!"

Perhaps it is jealousy of someone getting paid such high salary for having fun -- but then again -- they don't look like they are having fun. Highschoolers look like they are having fun. College football looks like they are having fun.... Pro football -- not so much.

The economy and the news media have stiffled my career. Unfortunately I am not currently in the New Home Building industry. I am in the New Home Building FALLOUT... I got let go from my job this month. They are 'no longer in need of my services'.

Am I going to stay in the New Home building industry?? Who knows. I had started to go back and get my Master's in April -- and I am going to continue on with that and see what road presents itself.

Happy Halloween all !!

Marla

I think the reason for this is simple. You have millions of dollars on the line when you fail to perfect the duties of your position. Hence, every player is an expert at their roles on the field. Not only that, but there is a lot of competition for those positions When I played football in high school the only incentive I had for winning was some inner pride and a possible letter on my jacket. In the NFL you risk a lot more.
1.) being cut or sent packing
2.) a lucrative income
3.) Super Bowl $$, notoriety, ring, world championship

Why has everyone given up on the Chargers? . . . there is still plenty of time to turn the season around. These guys have some unfinished business to take care of and they are going to start with the Chiefs on Sunday. Just you wait and see . . .

Hey Marla, sorry to hear the news. Best wishes with your Masters. I hope you stay connected with us and the industry.

Ed, I guess the Favre trade revealed I am a greater Favre fan than Packers fan, although I am Packer's fan. Come Sunday, the NY Bretts are on TV 1 and the Packers are on TV 2. I just ordered my Jet Favre jersey yesterday. I wasn't going to but I can't help it. Just when I thought I was out, he pulled me back in. J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Boy do you think the owner of the NYJ is happy they made than deal? A .500 season would have been a success. Now they lead their division. What are the Packers folks saying?

Beckie, the Chargers need your faith. They have brought me so much pain, I can no longer endure it. I hope they play better but until then, I remain broken hearted.

How exciting was last night's game?! Well, ok, until it was a complete blowout. Still, being the Vikes fan I am, I never mind watching a little cheese smashing going on! Sorry Jim and Ed :)

**And of course I LOVE watching high scoring active games!

We've had nothing for so long with the Vikes...but my spirit's still here! So all in all - I've got nothing to back it up! The good thing is, I'm not a Favre hater and REALLY wanted him in the land of the purple pride!

I'm just having fun. April loves the Vikes too. You know that 60% of women polled said they would have Brett Favre's baby. 85% of men said the same thing:)

I just got my Jets #4 jersey; green with the 'C' patch. I wasn't going to but they're playing so well, I couldn't help it. Go BRETTS!
