We've all heard the 'my site gets 200,000 hits per month', which sounds pretty impressive. There is a big difference though between hits to your site and visitors to your site. I've known the difference for a while but I read an article where the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK no longer allow web media to cite hits as a measure of web traffic.

Read the article here.

I do know that 'hits' is a common and incorrect perception of web traffic or web site popularity for non techy people. Is the ASA really protecting consumers or are they too heavy handed with their authority?
